The Board
Under the Western Australian College of Teaching Act 2004 Section 9(1), nine Board members are appointed to the board by the Minister for Education and Training on the nomination of education stakeholders representing employers, unions, universities and parent groups.
Under the Act, 10 teacher members are elected to the Board. Members are listed in order of nominations provided for in the Act.

Nominated jointly by the vice chancellors of the five WA universities Professor Robson is Head of the School of Education at Edith Cowan University. He trained as a high school teacher and taught physical education, English, media studies and history in Government schools in Western Australia and the UK. Professor Robson has been an education researcher, and has undertaken senior management roles in Curriculum, Planning, Human Resources and School Operations/Service Delivery, and had experience as CEO of a university-based company. |

Nominated jointly by the vice chancellors of the five WA universities A teacher educator, Mr Kissane is a former dean of Murdoch University's School of Education. He has taught in government and non-government secondary schools and at Murdoch University, the University of Western Australia and Curtin University of Technology. He is a life member of the Mathematical Association of WA and recently retired as president of the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers. |

Ms Howe is the secretary of the Independent Education Union of Western Australia and the Independent Education Union of Australia (WA branch). Career highlights include small business ownership and teaching mathematics and business studies in Catholic schools. |

TEACHER REPRESENTATIVES |
|
Ms Kelly is employed by the Department of Education and Training as an English teacher at Willetton Senior High School. She has extensive experience in the State school system, having worked for many years in isolated communities in the State's North and in hard-to-staff schools in the metropolitan area. |

Mr McMahon commenced employment with the Department of Education and Training in 1986 and has taught English and literature in a wide range of learning contexts. Since 1997, he has been a member of the English Department at Applecross SHS. He is grateful for the opportunity given to him by the profession as a result of his election to the Board, and looks forward to making a particular contribution to the working party established to review the legislation governing the WACOT Act. |

Dr Glyn Parry is a senior teacher employed by the Department of Education and Training. He is the author of several books for children and teenagers, as well as the celebrated novel Ocean Road. He has served on the State Library Board of Western Australia, the ABC National Advisory Council, and the Literature Board of the Australia Council for the Arts. Dr Parry is a keynote speaker at conferences and festivals throughout the country, and is invited to speak at numerous schools. His love of books is matched only by his passion for teaching. |

Mr Paton has been a teacher for more than 30 years and is employed by the Department of Education and Training as a senior teacher at Yuluma Primary School. He has taught at schools in the Perth metropolitan area and at Mullewa and Karratha. Mr Paton said he looked forward to representing all teachers through his work on the Board. |

Mrs Varris is in her first year as principal of Ellen Stirling Primary School in Ellen Brook after four years as deputy principal of South Ballajura Primary School. She has taught at various primary schools including Boyare, Midvale, Nungarin, Lake King and Bungaree, and at Morawa Agricultural District High School. Mrs Varris has also had a posting at DET's Swan District Office and has worked as a relief teacher.

Mr Vojkovic has been teaching science in DET high schools since 1993. He is an active SSTUWA member and co-founder of the PLATO group. Before teaching he worked in the oil industry and ran his own business. Since entering the profession, he has been increasingly concerned about the lack of attention paid to teachers’ professional opinions in many aspects of their jobs and hopes the establishment of the College will correct this. |

With 25 years experience and a secondary English background including Head of Department, Ms Walker has taught at all levels of education from Year 1 to tertiary. She is a classroom teacher, Getting it Right literacy teacher and Learning Support Coordinator at Armadale Primary School. Ms Walker is WA coordinator of the National School's Advisory Panel of the Australian Children's Television Foundation and is taking an active part in development of the National English Curriculum. |

Mr Bothe has had 30 years of experience as an educator in WA, Queensland and Victoria. He began his career as a school psychologist. He is principal of St Luke’s College in Karratha and was formerly the principal of Trinity College in East Perth and prior to that Catholic Agricultural College in Bindoon. He has formerly served as president of Catholic Secondary Principals’ Association. |

Mr Hancy began teaching in 1980 and has taught in all education sectors in WA. He has been president or vice-president of various school staff associations, twice been president of the Economics Teachers’ Association of WA and been a head of department for society and environment. Mr Hancy actively promotes teaching as a profession when communicating with colleagues, students and parents.
