Provisional registration

The Western Australian College of Teaching is committed to helping new and returning teachers through its programs designed specifically for provisionally registered teachers.

Provisionally registered teachers are new to the teaching profession - they are qualified but have yet to gain experience - or are returning teachers - that is, those who have not had the recent professional experience required of a registered teacher. Such teachers have not taught for at least one year in the past five years. The College recognises that rapid changes and innovations occur in education and it is unrealistic to expect teachers re-entering the profession to be familiar with these new developments without additional support.

This category is an acknowledgment by the profession that the beginning or returning teacher is entitled to extra support. It also enables the College to inform this particular group of teachers of any special events, including the Beginning and Returning Teachers' Seminar and other information relevant to them.

Provisional registration does not affect professional rights and responsibilities with the College, nor does it affect rates of pay or service conditions with the employer.
