This is an organisation which provides its members with a collective voice to raise issues and develop policies that are relevant in the workplace.

One of the stated aims of the Teachers’ Union is social justice and equity and the education sector is just one of the many employment areas that have an active union presence. Individual unions have a wider collective voice – they work together internationally through a body called Education International.

Union membership is voluntary in every workplace in Australia and there are unions representing teachers in both public and private education systems within Western Australia. Every state or territory union is affiliated with the national body – the Australian Education Union.
