Relief teachers with a three year qualification
As a result of a Board decision on 14 February 2007, a Limited Authority to Teach for the purpose of relief teaching may be granted to a suitably qualified teacher who has a three year teaching qualification in early childhood, primary, middle years or secondary education.
Conditions will apply to the granting of a Limited Authority to Teach for the purpose of relief teaching. The conditions are that the:

endorsing school/employer provide appropriate support and mentoring for the teacher;

teacher engage in professional development on an annual basis;

teacher be employed in no more than six schools;

teacher replaces an absent teacher for not more than 20 days consecutively.
Teachers who are granted a Limited Authority to Teach for the purposes of relief teaching are strongly advised to enrol in a fourth year of study in tertiary education.
